Some East Hampton residents are opposed to a proposed school bus facility that would be located near their residential street.
The bus depot would have school buses parked overnight on school-owned property near Cedar Street. Homeowners near the property, of which there are roughly a half-dozen, say the road is already too congested and that they are concerned about the extra noise.
The East Hampton School District says the site already contains some maintenance buildings, and that it is a better choice than other sites considered. That includes right in front of the high school, which could have impacted the football field.
Superintendent Richard Burns says sound barriers will be installed around the depot. He also says only less than half of the district's buses will be parked there.
The issue will go before voters next spring. By then, opponents say they hope to convince the district to select another site.
