Some Town of East Hampton residents say they believe a new parking lot is an accident waiting to happen.
Longtime town resident Leni Salz says traffic is not just a problem during the summer months on her street, Osborne Lane. Just down the road from Salz, the village is constructing a new public parking lot within feet of two other lots, right near East Hampton Middle School and local businesses.
Resident Jack Ceglic says he hopes the village will consider combining the new lot with the existing, adjacent lot so there's only one entrance from the road.
Village Mayor Paul Rickenbach says he understands the concerns and that there's still time to make changes to the plan, if needed. But he also says there is a real need for additional parking in the area.
Kristy Hood, who lives in nearby Springs, says she doesn't see how officials can add enough spots to really make a difference without inconveniencing those who live there.
The lot is expected to be completed by the spring.
