East End residents overwhelmingly voted yes to using a real estate tax to preserve open space and improve water quality.
Voters approved Proposition 1 in East Hampton, Riverhead, Southampton, Southold and Shelter Island towns.
Up to 20 percent of that "real estate transfer tax" will pay for water quality projects until the year 2050.
In addition, Riverhead voters have decided against expanding their town supervisor term from two to four years.
Meanwhile, 65 percent of voters said no to Proposition 2, and 34 percent said yes.
