May is called the month of flowers and there's a place out east that grows thousands of them.
News 12's Doug Geed takes you to an East End farm -- where you can find flowers, food and family fun.
This time of year, Helen's Flower Farm lives up to its name -- with a dazzling supply of flowers, plants and shrubs.
Customers stroll right through the greenhouse picking out flats, potted flowers and hanging baskets to decorate their porches and patios, many with really unique colors. However, the farm is a lot more than flowers. In about another month, the farm will open their huge farm stand across the street where they'll sell a wide variety of vegetables they grow on their nearly 150-acre farm. They even have some veggies that are ready now.
Farmer Donald McKay planted seeds in containers in February and had veggies ready for sale by early May. There's also animals on the farm you can visit with -- many of them rescues that the family took in, like these goats. Besides a place to shop, Helen's is a place that gives people a glimpse of life on the farm. For more information about Helen's, click here.
