The opportunity to cast your vote early for the 2021 general election ended Sunday at 3 p.m. after nine days.
Officials say thousands of voters took advantage of the extra time.
"We've had 300 plus voters just within the first 15 minutes, which proves to be the busiest day," said James Scheuerman on Sunday – the Democratic commissioner for the Nassau Board of Elections. "This has been the busiest off-year election we've had. The presidential is a whole different animal."
There were 17 early polling places in Nassau County and 12 in Suffolk County.
On the ballot this year was the district attorney seat in both counties – as well as all 19 legislative seats in Nassau and 18 in Suffolk.
Nov. 1 is the last day you can apply in person for an absentee ballot. Nov. 2, Election Day, is the last day for that ballot to be postmarked. The ballot must be received by the local Board of Elections no later than Nov. 9 for it to be counted.
Military voter ballots have a little longer. They must be received no later than Nov. 15.
