(AP) - Former major league All-Star Jose Offerman has been suspended from the Atlantic League indefinitelyfor hitting an opposing team's pitcher and catcher with his bat.
Offerman, who plays for the Long Island Ducks, has been chargedwith two counts of second-degree assault for the incident inBridgeport Tuesday night. He has posted $10,000 bond and is due inBridgeport Superior Court August 23.
Offerman homered in the first inning against the BridgeportBluefish. The next inning, he was hit by a pitch from Bluefishstarter Matt Beech and charged the mound.
Offerman hit Beech in the hands and catcher John Nathans in thehead with the bat.
Atlantic League officials say they'll decide his status by theend of the week.
