Driver sought in fatal Riverhead hit-and-run that killed Kristina Tfelt

Police are looking for the driver who fatally struck a young woman and fled on foot.

Police say Kristina Tfelt, a 26-year-old single mother, was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Riverhead last night.

Authorities say Tfelt was walking on Route 58 near Woodcrest Avenue when she was hit by a 2000 Cadillac DeVille.

An eyewitness says he heard the crash, ran out of his house and saw two men jump out of the car, over a retaining wall and through a parking lot. He says one of the men even came back to get something out of the car, then ran down the street.

About 20 minutes after the crash, police say the owner of the Cadillac called to report it stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500, extension 326.
