Police are searching for the driver who fatally struck a woman in Eastport on Saturday night before taking off.
Erika Strebel, 27, was hit after police say she pulled over on Montauk Highway.
She had pulled her Jeep over onto the shoulder and was out of the car because it had ran out of gas.
Strebel was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Her companion, Edward Barton, suffered head and leg injuries and is being treated at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Strebel is survived by her 5-year-old son.
Police believe the vehicle involved in the accident is metallic blue and has front end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
