A driver was killed when his car was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train on the tracks Monday in Deer Park.

The crash happened at the crossing on Carl's Path. The MTA says there were passengers aboard the train, which was heading to Penn Station at the time of the incident.

The MTA says the 94-year-old driver of the vehicle was killed. The driver’s identity has not been released, pending the notification of family.

Officials say a preliminary investigation indicates that the crossing gates were down, lights were flashing and bells were ringing. The driver apparently went around the gates to cross when the collision happened, according to the MTA.

There were no reported injuries to the train's passengers or crew.

The collision temporarily suspended LIRR service on the Ronkonkoma branch between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. Service had since been restored.
