Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Islip Terrace that killed two people.
The accident happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of Bellmore Avenue and Rockaway Street. Police say 30-year-old Nilssen Torres-Paredes was driving drunk when he crashed his SUV into another car. Two passengers of the car, a 30-year-old male and a 23-year-old female, were killed. Torres-Paredes was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Meanwhile, residents say the accident doesn't surprise them. Bellmore Avenue is a one-way street and residents say vehicles frequently travel in the wrong direction. Police, however, say they do not believe either vehicle was headed the wrong way.
