A Northport father accused of running down a construction worker and fleeing the scene faced a judge today. John Pappias is accused of fatally striking Victor Shultz, who was working on Route 25A in Fort Salonga back in October. Prosecutors say Pappias slammed into Shultz with his SUV and kept going. Detectives say they found Pappias through anonymous tips and a piece of debris found at the scene that matched his car. He was arrested last week, officials say. Prosecutors say Pappias admitted in a written statement that after he hit Shultz, he was scared of getting in trouble and hid his vehicle. Pappias is charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident. He is being held on $100,000 bond and is due back in court next month.
