Several drive-by shootings of homes were reported by residents in the Great River and Islip area Monday night.
Among them were Keswick Drive in East Islip, Greenlawn Avenue and Spur Drive in Islip Terrace. A shotgun blast hit Dan O'Connell's home on Provost Street at around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Some of the buckshot went through the wall into his home while O'Connell was sitting in the kitchen.
A home security camera captured what residents say is the suspected drive-by shooter's pickup truck whizzing by Belmore Avenue in Islip Terrace at around 12:45 a.m. Seconds later, gunshots rang out around the corner on Manhasset Street.
Tara Alvarez says her car was the shooter's next target. It was parked in front of her boyfriend's house on Manhasset Street. Bullets punctured the windshield and back of the car.
As a precaution, the superintendent ordered a lockdown of all schools in the East Islip School District. Students were kept indoors for the school day.
No one was injured during the shootings. Police have not made any arrests.
