Over 70 members of the
community came out to the Manorville Fire Department Friday to donate blood.
The department hosts blood
drives twice a year, once in the summer and once in the winter.
They say they are happy with
the turnout but wish more would donate because there is currently a blood
shortage.
According to the New York Blood
Center, in the United States, every two seconds someone needs a blood
transfusion and patients use approximately 40,000 pints of blood every day.
The state blood center says
they need all blood types and that the need for blood, plasma and platelets is
constant.
The Manorville Fire Department
has been working with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office to bring more people
in to donate.
