A doorbell camera caught a trio of potential thieves prowling around a Smithtown apartment complex.
Donna Toma's security camera captured the suspects trying to kick down a door at the Avalon complex. It happened around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
One of suspects was wearing a Halloween mask, while the other two wore hoodies. Surveillance video shows that the trio made four unsuccessful attempts to break down the door in the span of a half-hour. Toma was home at the time and heard the culprits kicking her neighbor's door.
"It's unsettling," she says. "You see this in movies."
Toma had the Ring security system installed at her apartment after burglars kicked down her door a couple of weeks ago. She says Avalon management didn't notify neighbors about the burglary until after she posted about the incident on Facebook.
Toma says Avalon sent an email to residents on Wednesday, notifying them that a temporary security guard will be hired to patrol the complex. But Toma says Avalon should install a security camera at the entrance.
News 12 did not immediately hear back from Avalon management for comment.
