Eighteen dogs rescued from South Korea are now on Long Island and in need of homes.
The small-breed dogs were saved from the Korean meat trade by Freeport-based Ruff House Rescue.
Rescuers say the pups have spent most of their lives in small metal cages and would have most likely been sent to slaughterhouses were they not rescued.
Ruff House Rescue's founder and director, Diane Indelicato, says it took an entire network of people stretching from Korea to New York to make the journey happen.
The group had to come up with $7,000 to get the dogs to the U.S., which Indelicato says was accomplished through fundraising and hard work.
