The Suffolk SPCA is trying to find the person who duct-taped a dog's muzzle shut and abandoned it in Lindenhurst.
The SPCA received a call about the young, male German shepherd early Saturday morning. He was found by a marina owner along Montauk Highway.
"To leave this dog unable to eat or drink, abandoned and frightened on a busy road is heartbreaking," said SPCA Chief Roy Gross in a statement.
The dog was picked up by the Babylon Animal Shelter, where he will be examined and checked for a microchip.
The SPCA says it is now offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case of animal cruelty. Officials say the duct tape will be sent to a crime lab to be checked for fingerprints.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Suffolk County SPCA confidentially at 631-382-7722.
