The Department of Education (DOE) has come up with a plan to get Bronx kids to class if city school bus drivers strike.
The DOE will give some students MetroCards and some parents two-way MetroCards to drop their children off and return home. Special education students who attend school outside of the city will be reimbursed for their school trip. Their parents will also get two-way subway cards. The strike would affect about 37,000 students starting this summer.
Local 1181 members authorized a strike if it does not reach a contract agreement with the city by the June 30 deadline. The DOE believes drivers could put their buses in park as soon as July 3.
