An Old Westbury doctor known for saving lives had his own life cut short by a hit-and-run in Mineola Friday night.

A parking attendant for Matteo?s Restaurant says he witnessed a car screaming down Mineola Avenue and plowing into 48-year-old Dr. Jeffrey Siegel. He says the driver never stopped. Police say Siegel was apparently crossing the street to pick up a pizza at Attilio's Italian Eatery.

Seigel was a well-respected pulmonary specialist who had a practice in Lake Success. He leaves behind a wife and three daughters.

The police, as well as Siegel's family and friends, are appealing to the public for help to bring his killer to justice. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
