Two popular WBAB disc jockeys apologized to the Latino community Friday for a controversial radio spoof called ?Wetback Steakhouse.?
Immigrant advocate Rev. Allan Ramirez says the term ?Wetback? is as derogatory a word as more well-known slurs directed at other ethnicities. He says with the current issues regarding illegal immigration and migrant workers, the sensitivity of Latinos is at an all-time high.
Morning show hosts Roger and J.P. say they crossed a line they didn?t even know existed when they ran the commercial. They say they were surprised people took such offense to it, but add that the station did not receive a single complaint about the spoof. They say they will discuss the issue on the air and contribute more fundraiser money to Latino causes.
