A developer has offered cash to Syosset Mobile Home Park residents being forced out of their homes.
STP Associates bought the property earlier this year and plans to develop the land. In turn, residents of the trailer park are being forced to relocate. The tenants sued STP after the announcement to redevelop the land was made.
STP announced Monday it has an offer intended to make the transition easier for residents.?There would be a sum of $500,000 to them for [the] purpose of defraying relocation expenses and losses,? Howard Avrutine, a lawyer for STP, said. ?Even though the owners have no obligation to do that.?
Avrutine also said the company will let the tenants stay through November 2008. However, it will raise the rent from $500 to $750.
The park?s Board of Directors and the tenants? attorney are waiting to hear more about the offer before any decision is made.
