Nassau Democrats put forth a budget with a proposed 3.9 percent property tax increase and $30 million in proposed cuts that is not sitting well with county Republicans.
The county Legislature needs to trim the budget as Nassau deals with a sinking economy.
"We have worked very hard to limit the pain in this budget," says Presiding Officer Diane Yaturo (D).
The proposal did not find favor across the aisle.
"The budget that they're proposing still contains a 3.9 percent tax increase, which is unconscionable given the economic situation that's occurring in the county," says Minority Leader Peter Schmitt (R).
