A Deer Park man accused of robbing three gas stations in Suffolk with a knife has been convicted.
Prosecutors say Victor Carlton robbed gas stations in Bay Shore, Lake Grove and Deer Park in November and December and even stabbed a clerk. They say he was convicted of three counts of robbery.
Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini says security camera footage helped lead police to catching Carlton, but says airing the footage on the news also played a vital part."
"In addition to the great work done by the Suffolk County Police Department and the prosecutors in my office, we couldn't have made this case without the assistance of News 12," says Sini.
Sini says authorities received tips from people who saw the story about the robberies on News 12 in December and called the Crime Stoppers number shown.
Police arrested Carlton less than a week after the third robbery.
Sini says Carlton faces up to 50 years in prison. He's scheduled to be sentenced in October.
