The Department of Environmental Protection held a public meeting tonight to discuss cleanup plans at a hazardous former industrial site in Jericho.
The DEC says the 3.8-acre site on Cantiague Rock Road is a "significant threat to public health or the environment."
The site is now home to a costume company, but the DEC says it used to be the location for an industrial dry cleaner, a manufacturer for artificial leather and plastics and a manufacturer for embroidered sportswear.
The DEC says soil, groundwater and air samples show they are contaminated with the industrial solvents, including tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE), which the EPA has listed as a known carcinogen.
The public has until March 26 to submit their comments.
