Community members in Wyandanch held a peaceful march down Irving Avenue Saturday to call for an end to violence in the community.
Last Sunday, Malik Stoddart, 18, was fatally shot while on the corner of Irving Avenue and Doe Street. He had graduated from Wyandanch High School and was set to begin classes at Monroe College this past week.
Mikequan McLamb, 19, was hit but survived the shooting. No arrests have been made.
On Thursday, police say shots were fired at a group of people who were standing on South 25th Street. A 21-year-old was hit and was hospitalized.
In response to the violence, S.N.U.G. Wyandanch - a division of the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc. - led the 1-mile march to raise awareness and honor the victims.
