A family accused of illegal dumping in Central Islip is speaking out today about the allegations.

Dozens of trucks owned by the Datre family have been spotted dumping fill at Roberto Clemente Park.

The park later tested positive for asbestos in Brentwood, along with a private lot in neighboring Central Islip.

Thomas Datre Sr. and his wife, Clara, told News 12 that their week has been a living hell as they watched their family name and business reputation smeared by the alleged dumping scandal.

Investigators seized records at the Ronkonkoma-based building where Datre family members own multiple businesses.

Datre Sr. says he only owns a construction company. The trucking company is owned by his son, Thomas Datre Jr.

Thomas Datre Jr. has admitted through his attorney that he was one of several vendors that partnered with the town to build soccer fields at the Roberto Clemente Park. In a written statement to News 12, he says that he only dumped "legal permissible" materials.

The Datre family believes they are being singled out because of money they donated to numerous politicians over the years.

News 12 has learned that the town has scheduled a press conference for Friday morning to give an update on the situation at the park.
