New charges could be coming against a West Hempstead man accused of drunken driving in a now-fatal crash in Baldwin.
Police say Roy Gomez, 39, was drunk when he crashed into a car stopped at a red light on Grand Avenue and Milburn Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Initial reports said that three victims were transported to the hospital after the incident. News 12 learned Thursday that one of the rear passengers of the Nissan Altima, 21-year-old Jovanni Bien Aime, died from his injuries.
Authorities say Gomez fled the scene, parked his vehicle a few blocks away and then took off on foot. They say he was found later sleeping in a boat in Freeport.
Gomez was arraigned Wednesday on assault, vehicular assault, DWI and other charges. The Nassau District Attorney's Office says charges are likely to be upgraded at a future court appearance.
