‘Cycle for Survival’: Riders pedal toward a cancer cure
Teams of cyclers raised money Saturday during an annual event to help in the fight against rare forms of cancer.
Riders gathered in the morning and afternoon for the “Cycle for Survival” event at Equinox in Woodbury.
Sari Warsaw told News 12 that she was riding for her friend Sawyer Weiss, who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. After going through rounds chemo and surgery, her scans recently came back clear.
“When Sawyer was going through diagnosis, there was nothing we could do to help, so this has provided us with the opportunity to support the family,” says Warsaw.
Organizers say research on many rare cancers is drastically underfunded and often leaves patients with limited or no treatment options.
The event continues Sunday morning. One-hundred percent of the proceeds are going toward research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
