A Long Island woman who was born in Cuba before the Communist regime of Fidel Castro took over expressed doubt Monday that President Barack Obama's visit to the island country would bring about any change.
"I know he wants to build bridges, and I agree with that," says Margarita Graesing. "But I think you gotta get something in return, and I don't see that Communist country willing to give anything in return."
In a historic moment, Obama joined Cuban President Raul Castro at a press conference after the two met in Cuba Monday.
Both leaders spoke about improving relations between the neighboring countries. They talked diplomacy, lifting a long-standing trade embargo and improving human rights -- but Graesing says she has little faith that the meeting will amount to anything more than just talk.
Other Cuban-Americans voiced optimism. Armando Lopez, who owns the Corazon de Cuba restaurant in Long Beach, says improved relations will boost Cuba's economy and benefit people living there.
