Workers at one of Long Island's largest drug treatment facilities locked the doors and went home after not receiving a paycheck Friday.
The workers say they have not been paid in weeks despite promises of checks since the state took over all nine Crossings Recovery Centers on the Island. Employees say they are dedicated to their jobs but refuse to work for free.
The future of the centers is in jeopardy after the state revoked Crossings' operating licenses on February 14, citing more than 100 violations including inadequate medical care and inappropriate treatment. State officials say they will visit the facilities starting Monday to refer patients to other agencies.
