Cricket makes waves in Brooklyn ahead of World Cup

One of the most popular sports in the world is being played in Brooklyn, with Transit Tech High School’s team gearing up for a cricket city championship.

Students from the School for Classics High School and Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School make up the Transit Tech team. Their team is one of eight left across the five boroughs competing for a public school championship. Each member of the team has their own unique journey with the sport – some picked it up from their parents, some have been playing since birth, and some come from cultures that worship the sport.

Cricket is set to take center stage in June, and the Cricket World Cup is coming to America. The sport’s signature event will see games played in Long Island.

The high school cricket team will play their PSAL quarterfinal round match on Friday. The Cricket World Cup starts Saturday, with team USA joining the tournament for the very first time.
