Crews from at least five fire departments battled a fire that broke out Sunday morning in a building at Hicks Nurseries in Westbury.
Fire officials say the flames sparked in a maintenance shed at around 10 a.m., then spread to an attached building. The area where the fire broke out is about 150 feet away from the nursery's main retail building.
It took 75 firefighters about one hour to extinguish the flames. Officials say their efforts were hampered by a lack of hydrants on the property.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under invesgation, but investigators say it does not appear suspicious.
Hicks' managers say the fire did not affect their retail operation, and the nursery remained open for business.
Customers picking up garland and wreaths seemed unfazed by the nearby blaze. One shopper told News 12 that he assumed the fire trucks were there to entertain shoppers' children.
