Wrecking crews brought down an empty house on Briarwood Road in North Massapequa Tuesday that was deemed a "zombie" home.
Town of Hempstead officials said they went to court to get the permission to demolish the home.
They said there was damage inside and outside the home, as well as signs of asbestos.
Neighbors said they are relieved.
"It's been 13 long years and it's been quite a few, it's been a mess, it's been abandoned. Hopefully, they'll clear it out, build a new home and some new neighbors," said resident Thomas Scollo.
This is the second so-called "zombie" home to be knocked down in that neighborhood in the last month.
