Family members and officials gathered Friday for the official groundbreaking of the museum to honor a Navy SEAL from Patchogue.
The museum pays tribute to Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who was killed by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan in 2005 while he was leading a SEAL team on a covert mission. What happened to Murphy was the basis for the movie "Lone Survivor."
The $4 million museum will feature interactive displays and will be housed in an 8,000-square foot structure at the edge of Charles Domini Park in West Sayville.
