Cow dies after escaping pen, being struck by SUV

Police say a bull and a cow escaped from their enclosure in Yaphank Friday night, leading to a crash.
An SUV struck the animals on Yaphank Middle Island Road, just south of Route 25.
The people inside the SUV were not injured, but officials say the cow died.
First responders were able to corral the bull and return it to its pen.
