Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced Monday a new drive-thru COVID-19 testing facility at North Shore Hebrew Academy in Great Neck.
Curran says cases in Great Neck and in Port Washington are double the county average, prompting officials to open the rapid testing site.
Officials are concerned hospitalizations in the county are just under 100, the highest they've been since June. They say micro-spikes will be fought just as they were in the Five Towns area weeks ago -- with testing, tracing and community outreach.
Northwell Health, which is operating the testing center, told News 12 over the weekend that there is concern that the number of COVID-19 cases will continue to go up with the holidays looming. Officials are cautioning residents not to let their guards down with small gatherings.
As for the testing site in Great Neck, an appointment must be made for a test by calling 1-833-4CARENY. The site is free and people will drive through and get a nasal swab. Meanwhile, staff from Northwell have the testing machines inside.
