A couple was found dead in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide in East Hampton.
Authorities broke into Georgiana and Lester Stockel's home Monday morning after receiving three hang-up calls to 911. The couple, both 64, were found in the master bedroom, each with a gunshot wound to the head.
Lester Stockel was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was taken to Southampton Hospital and transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center before being pronounced dead at 9:18 a.m.
The couple is from New Jersey. Neighbors say they've been spending weekends out east for more than 13 years. Neighbor Sue VanDyke says the incident is shocking.
"We had no idea whatsoever," she says. "Our windows were open ? we didn't hear a sound."
