According to officials, a patrol sergeant and police officer responded to a 911 call of a man waving a shovel at people outside a home on Whalers Cove at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday. The officer and sergeant began to interview Stephen Visconti, 57, who was seated on the front patio of the home.
During the conversation, the man's wife, Pamela, 58, exited the home and stood between the officer and her husband.
According to officials, while the sergeant was attempting to remove Pamela from the patio, Stephen raised his arm, threatening to throw a coffee mug at the officer.
The officer deployed her Taser, striking Stephen. Officials say he then threw the mug toward the officer's head.
During the sergeant's attempt to remove Pamela from the situation, both the sergeant and Pamela fell to the ground. Pamela was able to take possession of a police baton and struck the female officer in the forehead, police say.
