To celebrate National Food Bank Day, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has renamed the holiday to honor Harry Chapin.
Blakeman joined the Chapin family on Friday at Eisenhower Park to announce a free concert to mark the change.
“There’s a poignancy in Harry Chapin’s lyrics,” he said. “It’s a reflection of reality, real life. I think that’s what Harry Chapin was about. He was a real guy.”
Musicians will take the stage next Tuesday at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre to play their rendition of the beloved Long Islander's music. People looking to attend are asked to bring a can of non-perishable food to the concert.
