Dozens of police and government agencies gathered in Brookville today for what was billed as the largest counterterrorism meeting in the U.S. since Sept. 11.
Hundreds of police organizations from across the tri-state area were represented at the meeting at the Tillis Center. It was organized by the director of the LIU Homeland Security Institute, Dr. Harvey Kushner.
Speakers discussed ways to protect so-called "soft targets," such as shopping malls.
Also among the topics discussed were the potential closure of Guantanamo Bay detention center, the Apple passcode dispute with the government in the San Bernardino shooting, and when and where the "next big terror threat" could emerge.
Organizers say they will plan more counterterrorism meetings and practical workshops at LIU in Brookville in the near future.
