The pandemic has prompted the Village of Port Jefferson to cancel this year's Charles Dickens Festival.
The event, which would've been in its 25th year, attracts over 25,000 people on the first weekend after Thanksgiving weekend in December.
The Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council says it's prioritizing public safety as this is an annual family event.
The council, which organizes the event, adds that the planning of this year's festival was already in the works after the end of last year's event.
The council also says that talks are underway to find a future date to hold the event, and if not, it will return December 2021.
