Nassau County Legislature Deputy Presiding Officer Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) was removed from his leadership post Wednesday.
In a letter to Corbin, Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) wrote, "It has become apparent that you are unwilling to work toward the goals of the caucus."
Corbin abstained earlier in the day on a measure that would have increased fees for the fire marshal's office. As the Democrats hold a 10-9 majority, the bill failed without Corbin's vote.
While Jacobs said Corbin simply stopped doing his job as a leader, Corbin, who held the post for six years, believes Jacobs was motivated by revenge. Corbin joined forces with Legis. Lisanne Altmann (D-Great Neck) in an unsuccessful attempt to oust Jacobs from her leadership post more than a year ago.
The firing takes effect immediately, with Corbin losing $23,000 in salary.
However, Jacobs left the door open to a possible return, writing, "Should circumstances warrant, I would consider reviewing this decision."
