Police on the East End are now investigating the death of a jogger as a possible hit-and-run.
As previously reported, James Callaghan, 49, of Jamesport, died while jogging in January. Callaghan, a father of four, was an avid runner and was on Route 25 in Laurel when he was hit by at least two cars. Callaghan died in the road.
Officials say two drivers who hit Callaghan stopped, but told police he was already lying in the road.
Callaghan's wife Jennifer says investigators found blue metallic paint on her late husband's clothing that did not match the cars that stopped.
Callaghan's wife and children, like police, are asking for eyewitnesses or the driver to please come forward. Mrs. Callaghan said, "I think it's more important for me to give answers to his children... I think they need answers."
Police are offering a reward of up to $5,000 in the case.
Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
