Cops: Man drove drunk, struck stroller with baby

A Farmingdale man is accused of driving drunk, striking a stroller that had a baby inside and then dragging the stroller for an entire block.
Police say a grandfather was pushing a 2-year-old in a stroller in a crosswalk on Central Avenue in Bethpage. The driver, identified as Anthony Valenti, allegedly struck them with his Nissan Murano.
Officials say the stroller became lodged under the vehicle, and Valenti continued to drag it for an entire block before stopping. A passerby then removed the baby and stroller from under the vehicle.
Police say the child suffered what appeared to be minor injuries to the head, face and arm. The grandfather suffered an injury to his left foot and ankle, along with neck and back pain. They were both hospitalized.
Valenti is being charged with two counts of third-degee assault, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to use due care to avoid a pedestrian.
