Police say that yet another alligator has been discovered on Long Island, this time at a home in Islip.
The 13-inch gator was discovered in a tank at an Islip home yesterday while police were there for an unrelated matter. The creature appeared healthy and was confiscated by authorities, who say that the owner may face charges.
SPCA officials say it marks the 20th time that one of the creatures has turned up on Long Island over the past year.
It is illegal to own an alligator in New York state.
The Suffolk SCPA held a training course last week to teach police how to handle the recent surge in illegal reptiles and gators. In September, the SPCA hosted a reptile amnesty program to let people turn in illegal pets without facing charges.
