Police arrested a modern day Bonnie and Clyde Thursday after the couple allegedly robbed five banks over the past month.
Four of the banks Patrick Kegel, 42, and Karen Kegel, 36, are suspected of holding up are on Long Island. Police say the Kegels hit two banks in West Hempstead, one bank in Rockville Centre, and another in Valley Stream. Cops say the couple fled the state after each robbery, later holding up a Wachovia in Milford, Connecticut on December 21.
Living out of their car and multiple hotels, police caught up with the Kegels at the Surfside Motel in Howard Beach, Queens. Cops say about $3,900 of the $4,600 stolen in Valley Stream was in Karen Kegel's purse. The suspects each face four counts of robbery in New York and are being held without bail. There is no word on charges in the suspected Connecticut robbery.
