Dry weather continues on Long Island, with colder temperatures to end the week. Expect sunny skies Thursday with a breeze and high temperatures in the low 60s. At night, we'll go down into the 40s.
A brief warmup arrives for the weekend with another cooldown next week. The only chance for rain in the 10-day forecast is Sunday night, when we could see a few light showers. Overall, the dry, drought pattern continues on Long Island.
Hurricane Milton was a Category 3 storm as of 5 p.m. Wednesday and is rapidly weakening and picking up speed as it heads toward Florida's west coast. Landfall is expected by 10 p.m. in the Tampa to Sarasota area with catastrophic storm surge, damaging winds and flash flooding from heavy rain. The storm will race across the state and track out into the Atlantic by Thursday afternoon.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and chilly with lows near 47 degrees. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Sunrise: 6:59
THURSDAY: Sunny, breezy, and chilly with highs near 62 degrees. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Sunset: 6:19 p.m. Clear and cold at night with lows near 45 degrees. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
FRIDAY: Sunny and cool with highs near 68 degrees. Lows near 53 degrees.
SATURDAY: Sunny and warmer with highs near 74 degrees. Lows near 50 degrees.
SUNDAY: Sun and clouds. Nice with highs near 67 degrees. Mostly cloudy at night with the chance of some showers. Lows near 50 degrees.
MONDAY: Partly sunny and cooler. Slight chance for a sprinkle or shower early in the day. Highs near 64 degrees. Lows near 45 degrees.
TRACKING MILTON
Heavy rain, deadly storm surge, damaging winds and tornadoes - all headed toward Florida. The worst part of storm is typically to the right side of the storm where landfall occurs. Long Island will not get hit by Milton.
