Our coldest air of the season continues on the island tonight as dangerous cold settles in.
An extreme cold warning is in effect for Nassau and Suffolk counties until 1PM today.
Overnight wind chills dropped as low as -19F in Islip, which is the 6th lowest since 1980. Temperatures have been in the single digits across the island since yesterday afternoon. Although record lows are not expected to be broken this morning, a daily record low for February 8th will likely be broken this afternoon. Our forecast high is 15F and the record for Islip is 20F today.

Despite ample sunshine, it's a bitter cold Sunday with temperatures in the teens this afternoon and wind chills at or below 0-degrees. The high today is 15F with wind gusts occasionally reaching 40 mph.
Monday morning will also be dangerously cold. Morning temperatures are in the mid to upper single digits with clear skies and winds 10-20 mph. This will make it feel like -10F.
Monday afternoon is sunny and less cold, in the upper 20s. It's still breezy at times, but sunny.
Cloudy skies arrive Tuesday with temperatures in the upper 30s. A few snow showers are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday, but little to no accumulation is expected
Our next chance for wintry weather will be next Sunday and Presidents Day, but at this time it's too early to determine if there will be any snow accumulation.
