Poor air quality has returned remains as smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to drift across the Northeast. Sensitive groups (children, elderly, people with asthma or heart disease) should limit prolonged time outdoors if possible today.
We're also tracking severe thunderstorms today. These storms will develop by lunchtime and push in and out through the evening. A few storms will produce damaging wind and flash flooding. A few tornadoes are expected in the tri-state area, with the best chances north and west of the city.
Today also poses hazards for boaters and beachgoers. A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Atlantic facing beaches. Life threatening rip currents are expected today with wave heights up to 5 feet for the Atlantic. A small Craft Advisory is in effect today for the Atlantic and Eastern Long Island Sound.

Tomorrow looks like a nice one! Swells will still be around 5 feet for our beaches with a lingering (but not as high) threat for rip currents. Otherwise it's a beautiful day with highs around 80 degrees and hazy sunshine. Air quality issues are limited to just the most sensitive groups
