Consumer advocates called on state Sen. Michael Venditto Friday to support a bill that would require food manufacturers to clearly label products that include GMOs.
Venditto is the chairman of the Senate's Consumer Protection Committee. In a statement to News 12 Long Island, he did not explicitly support the bill, but did say, "Consumers deserve to know what is in their food and make an informed decision on what they are eating."
Venditto also says it's important that Albany lawmakers "strike a fair balance for all parties involved."
The GMO labeling bill is currently in committee in the state Assembly.
