The Science National Honor Society at Connetquot High School spent Tuesday restoring some of Long Island's wetlands.
The students spent time on the Connetquot River in Oakdale where a home that was on the land was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.
Science National Honor Society President Rhiannon Whelan proposed the project.
"We're restoring it to be forever wild, we're planting indigenous species, we're putting a path, we're planting to prevent erosion on the beach - all for the community to enjoy," Whelan says.
The students are also planting a butterfly garden.
