A family court judge decided to send one of the Connetquot High School attack plotters to a residential treatment facility Wednesday.
The 15-year-old was arrested in July after details of the Columbine-like plot, which also involved his 17-year-old friend Michael McDonough, surfaced. The teen has been in psychiatric treatment at Sagamore Children?s Psychiatric Center since July . The new decision extends the treatment at a new facility to at least next July.
A family attorney characterizes the decision as rehabilitation that is not punitive in nature.
Judge John Kelly complimented the teen on a new haircut and sweater before handing down the decision. "Sagamore raves about the progress you've made, but you have a long way to go...keep up the good work,? Kelly told the teen.
The teen?s mom said she is happy with the decision and is willing to do whatever it takes to get her son back home. She says he's doing very well at Sagamore, academically and otherwise.
The earliest the teen will be transferred to the new treatment facility is Friday morning.
