Residents and officials gathered in Patchogue Saturday for a forum on gun violence organized by Anna Throne-Holst, the Democratic candidate for the 1st Congressional District.

The event was attended by officials, as well as residents who lost loved ones to gun violence. Those involved in the on-stage discussion sought to come up with solutions for gun violence in the county.

Throne-Holst says her opponent, the incumbent Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), has let down his constituents on the issue.

"We're currently in the hands of a congressman, Lee Zeldin, who will take no action on this -- will not even join his Republican colleague Peter King in the next district who has put forward legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of terrorists on the terrorist watch list," said Throne-Holst, the former Town of Southampton supervisor.

The NRA's political action committee gave Zeldin its endorsement and also gave him an A-rating.

A spokesperson for Zeldin said Throne-Holst was "distorting" Zeldin's record. She said, "Throne-Holst has apparently not gotten the memo that you aren't supposed to lie in life, especially for selfish pursuits. Her shameful dishonesty and ultra-liberal soundbites are not welcome in our congressional district."
